|  | In New York City, there are a lot of very old 'brownstones' - a brownstone in this city originally meant a terrace or row-house made of brown sandstone...it would typically be a building with steps leading up to a second floor - back in the old days when horse and buggy was common transportation, the steps to a brownstone leading up, would help to avoid bringing mud or horse-droppings in, from the street level. However, nowadays the term 'brownstone' is used loosely for reference to many similar type buildings which resemble the original brownstones. The buildings are steeped in history and come in a cornucopia of colors and surfaces. I have also added a few other buildings of architectural interest. Enjoy the viewing! |
